Pincushions!!!

Well we are now well into the 3rd month of the year and as per usual I have little to show for it apart from a pottier belly and a few scratches. Ultimately, I am no wiser, no wittier and certainly no richer than I was 4 months ago. So, this month I set out to do something I have thought about doing for years but have never got round to actually doing it. I made my own pincushion! Lame and simple I know, but I've just always wanted to do it and now I actually have! The last post was from my phone and did show a decent picture of my new creation, but the wrong way up. Don't know why it does that, cos it looks correct on my phone, but when I check it on a computer, it's wrong.

Anyway, I'm babbling (nothing unusual there then!), I managed to find the pincushion I chose to do online at The Little House by the Sea's blog and the page can be found here. That's what the picture is, this time the correct way up. My first homemade pincushion. And I love it!!! I got a bit of a taste for it then. Decided to make this one from a template uploaded to Burda Style. I had a bit of a problem with this one as it didn't turn out how I would have liked it to. I did it in lemon yellow and emerald green. Doubt I'll be trying that again. Ooops!

After a bit of a search about online I found loads (and I mean loads) of possible templates, patterns and tutorials both easy and more difficult that were all brilliant and would make great pincushions. Then I came across this little number from Paper, String, Cloth. And I simple fell in love with the idea. As I had already made my toadstool pincushion in felt and had some other bits left over I decided to take the idea and do something similar but different with it.

Hence here is mine!

Gorgeous don't you think? A little bit fiddly with the buttons, but I like it. In fact I liked it that much when I made it that I created another one, with a slightly different twist on it.

This one is made with a blanket stitch around the outside as opposed to basic stitching and then turning right way. Oh and I added a small ribbon loop to grab on to. It's my intention to pop the pincushion into a 'sewing caddy' I created out of an old pair of jeans, I'll pop the details of that up as soon as I can!

Sorry the photos are brilliant, I'm only using my phone at the moment, I shall get some better ones taken with the camera.

Operation Pincushion!

I'm doing this from my phone so I really hope the photo works. It's a toadstool, a felt and stuffing toadstool. My new pincushion. I made it myself. Really chuffed with it, first one I've made and I've got a bit of a bug for it now too! I've used a pattern I got off the net, I'll post the link when I get to a computer. And I'm currently stitching a mushroom to go with. Oh and maybe a hedgehog too lol. Hope you like it!

What a weekend!!!

Ok, so working a weekend isn't ideal, but it makes things easier if it don't seem like working. Yesterday was great, supported a couple of my students to go horse riding. Badly wanted to get out there and jump on myself. But I held back, it's their time, not mine. And then I went to the cinema to see the new Johnny Depp film 'Rango'. It's not a bad film, wasn't what I was expecting exactly, yet still predictable. The kids shouting at the back didn't make it any better to watch tbh. I wasn't happy! All the same it wasn't too bad a day. Went quicker than I thought it would.
Today is just as busy to be honest. I write this post whilst sat on a bus going to a student's birthday party. Fun eh?

Ok I Admit it!!!!

Ok, so I admit that I haven't exactly kept my promise (already) that I would post every week. But then again, I have been rather busy and I have had troubles with my phone too. Bloody thing won't post sometimes and other times when it does, it doesn't post the pictures I ask it to! Makes my posts make no sense at all sometimes! argh! lol
On the plus side, I have been a busy bee lately, and I've had lots of fun too! It was Valentine's Day last Monday, did you get anything? I did, I got two, that's it TWO Valentine's cards. First one was a 'joke' one and the other was a beautiful and lovingly written card from my wonderful boyfriend. I love him and I tell him EVERY day!
The following day was his birthday, 24! He feels old, God knows why cos he certainly aint! He's a little bit bored from time to time and could do with fattening up, but all the same, I love him and he's certainly not old! This weekend we spent with his family, his father and step mother to be precise. We spent the weekend with them doing alsorts of things, bowling, meal out (RATHER GOOD!) playing on the Wii Fit, chilling in front of the telly. Just a generally really nice weekend. I've had fun and so has everyone else (I hope).

Saturday!

Ok, so it's the weekend and am I going out tonight? Going shopping today? Sleeping in tomorrow? No! I'm working!! Don't get me wrong, I love my job, but it can be hard work sometimes. Working with people with special needs can push you to the brink of yourself. There are times when I just can't continue after a bad day. But I work with some amazing people, both staff and students. We have a laugh, do great things and wonderous work. I admire the people I work with, the parents of our students and the students themselves too. I know how much hard work it can be. But I also know how rewarding and special it can be too!

Just Why Do I Do It?

Sometimes I just do things without thinking. I think we all do really, not just me. I work in a profession where thinking before you speak is the preferred thing to do. Me on the other hand, I just do what feels right at the time. And often what feels right at the time and hence somes out of my mouth isn't exactly what's preferred or should be said. I've got a big mouth, a big personality and a big heart. My life isn't ruled by preferances of speech at work or even at home. It's ruled by my preferances of feeling, thought and experiences I have. Get over it people to tell me off!

Pinch Punch First of the Month

And what a gorgeous beginning to the month it is. The photo was taken whilst out walking the dog in my now slightly squeaky trainers. Think I need to dry them out when I get back home. Nice bit of time in front of the fire should do the trick I think.
I've had a bit of a rumage and a sort out today. The charity shop are gonna love me! Just bootex out some stuff that I don't use and I certainly don't need. In fact some stuff I don't even like and wonder why I bought them (or was given them) in the first place! They'll get dropped off later on in the week.
We're now entering the 3rd and final month of Winter and don't we know it? Defrosting my car every morning before going to work is interesting to say the least! Also, it's a bit of a pain in the ass, and very cold! I can't wait for spring to get here. The nights are steadily putting out though and the mornings are lighter too. Getting there, slowly but surely.
